I met an elderly woman who has been wishing her whole life to publish a book she has written. She told me a company was going to publish her book but she couldn't start yet. I felt intruding asking but I wondered why she hasn't published yet. She had just told me moments ago she had three complete novels she had written but she was saving up to start to publish her first book. I asked her more and eventually she reluctantly she told me she was saving to publish the first book because they charge $3500 PER release.

She was kind and just the sweetest old lady you could ever meet. She offered to share one of her manuscripts with me and I humbly accepted.

I read the first 10 pages or so and I came back to her and I just had to tell her how amazing she was at writing and just how descriptive and insightful her writing was and she blushed.

I couldn't help but tell her that I had a company that from time to time deals with publishing and I offered to help her start it. She was so joyful and couldn't keep from smiling from ear to ear. I told her I'd do the same package that company was offering but for 10% of the cost. She almost fell to tears she was so mesmerized. I felt great knowing I could deliver her a goal she had already completed years ago but felt so out of reach from moving forward.

We made an agreement and when we met for the contract signing she was trembling.  I asked her if everything was alright and she she smiled with joy. She told me she was so happy to live out this dream and she shook my hand as she stood up and said what do I call you? Are you my manager? And I said you are an amazing author and I was lucky enough to been your assisting publisher.

She thanked me several more times and she remained lit up and full of emotion for the rest of the day we shared passing each other from time to time.

The joy and satisfaction I felt was so real and true, I knew I was helping someone accomplish something and I couldn't believe that our brief conversation had led to an opportunity that she had made seem so grand and important.

She asked me what I thought of her writing in a serious tone and I told her you have always been a great writer finally people will be able to see it.

Delores Thomas is releasing her novel The Multicultural Antique Shop next week on Amazon
